The Statue of St. Jan of Nepomuk [ Statue, sculptural group or sculpture ]
In the centre of the square in Starý Jičín, on a high prismatic sockle sunk on two steps, there is a baroque sandstone life-sized statue of Saint Jan of Nepomuk. The statue of the saint is dressed in the traditional canonical robe with a circle of stars around its head. The S-shaped figure in a mild contraposition is holding a cross with the corpus in its right hand. The face is finely chiselled, the drapery, falling loosely in vertical pleats, respects the body measurements. The high-quality baroque sculpture dating back to the middle of the 18th century was fixed on a new pedestal in 1904.
